Make Synesthesia Accessible !
Research Program

Raphaël Bourda

Hi,

My name is Raphaël, and I'm in the final year of a master's program in photography, in Paris.

For my thesis, I've chosen to explore my fascination with the various ways individuals perceive and experience the world, focusing on synesthesia.

Can we characterize the perception of a synesthetic individual (visual-to-sound synesthesia), model it, simulate it, and make it accessible to a non-synesthetic audience?

Just as past efforts have been made to understand and raise awareness about color blindness, I aim to contribute to the development of a protocol that allows a non-synesthetic person to gain insight into the experience of synesthesia. This has never been done before. It's a significant challenge, but I am highly motivated and have the guidance of experienced professionals.

Among them are teacher-researchers, emeritus professors, and laboratory directors in psycho-perception, as well as my thesis advisors, whom I introduce to you below.

Internal Supervisor

Pascal Martin

He has been teaching as an University Professor since 1984. He is the scientific guarantor of the photography master's program and Head of the Laboratory of Applied Optics at the École Nationale Supérieure Louis-Lumière, Paris, France.

External supervisor

Maike Preißing.

She is a psychologist, a designer and a synesthesia artist from Germany. She is also the founder and host of the podcast “Let’s Talk Synesthesia” and the face behind “synesthes_a”, an educational and creative space online for synesthetes.

Today, we are looking for synesthetes profiles !

Whether it's to share your testimonies, your personal experiences that will contribute to the knowledge generated by the study,
or to participate in the development of the research program, we need your involvement.
